How Music Shapes Us...

Music is soothing, refreshing, calming, and exhilarating. It makes us feel emotions—sometimes with just a single tune. How does a collection of words, arranged in a structured or unstructured manner, create such a layered reality?

Is it pattern recognition? Is it the feeling of safety and comfort? Or is it something else?

Rhythm is what has transcended time and age, standing firm through the test of time. Beginning with the human heartbeat, inhaling and exhaling, every biological cycle follows a rhythm.

As a social glue, music acts as a catalyst, helping form bonds by building trust and familiarity. A newborn baby is naturally drawn to rhythmic sounds, which become a stepping stone toward feeling safe and eventually falling asleep.

Perhaps this is also the reason why some people find it easier to concentrate while listening to music with a particular rhythm, allowing them to enter a flow state.

It’s the beauty of not knowing exactly when the beat will drop that leaves the brain’s predictive model in a state of awe.

We remain curious about what is going to come next, and perhaps that curiosity is what makes music so exciting to humans.

I don’t know if this is the Mozart effect speaking or just another unraveling session of MeeWig.
